ジャガイモの名前の由来とは

肉じゃがやカレー、コロッケなどで食べられるジャガイモ。
では「ジャガイモ」の名前の由来とは、何なのでしょうか？

インドネシアのジャワ島が関係している。
実はジャガイモの名前の由来となっている場所は
インドネシアにあるジャワ島が関係しています。
南方から伝来してきたジャガイモ
オランダ船によって伝来。
今ではジャガイモは無くてはならない食材の一つ。
そのジャガイモは16世紀後半に、オランダ船で長崎に入って伝来した食材です。
呼び名の由来は諸説ありますが、一説では
当時、ジャワ島のジャカルタ（当時はジャカトラ）から経由して
日本に伝来したことから「ジャガタライモ」と呼ばれるようになり
それを縮めて「ジャガイモ」となったようです。
じゃがいもって何の仲間？
ジャガイモは、なすの仲間。
小ネタになりますが、ジャガイモは植物学の分類だと
ナス科ナス属の多年草の植物、つまり「なす」の仲間になります。
芋なので、さつまいもと同じ仲間？見えますが、実はさつまいもとは別の種類の作物になります。
